Problem:

You have a Windows computer such as Windows XP or Vista and it used to work what appeared to be somewhat fast, but now it is really slow during the boot up process and it seems like it just stays slow all the time now. The computer startup process isn’t finished once the Windows operating system has completed loading. Rather the computer’s operating system is able to be configured in a way to allow commands to be run every time the Windows PC starts. These commands can be found in the registry files or they may be stored in a user’s profile. They are then used to have the system automatically start or load an application or a script every time Windows is started.

The problem is however if your Windows systems has too many scripts or application programs to be loaded each and every time your computer starts it can really slow things down. Now if you really need to have an application loaded or it is an application that you would load right away once you turned on your computer, then it may make sense to include those programs in your start up. However if they are not needed everytime you should probably not add them in and you may want to remove the excess programs now to speed up your PC.

There could be different reasons why a computer that used to run faster is now booting up much slower. However a common reason is that the system is now configured to load mulitple software applications (as mentioned above) during the boot up process which not only slows down the start up but also can make the system run much slower once it is running as more of the memory resources are now tied up.

Sometimes when you install software it may ask if you would like to add the application to the startup folder or some applications may get added to start up in a more sinister fashion.

Common Solutions:

1) Increase Your Computer RAM

If you need all the programs to load when you first turn on your computer then you may want to consider buying additional RAM (or memory) for you computer. However before you run off and buy additional memory you may want to first try removing programs as noted below to see if that fixes the problems are experiencing and making your computing life so frustrating.

2) Remove Unneeded Applications From Starting When The System Boots

Note: To remove applications program from your startup files you can normally do it manually, but not always. For example a software application such as adware, spyware, etc… may have been installed in such a way that it is more difficult (unless you really know what you are doing) to manually remove it.

For those easier applications to remove from the computer startup you can usually go to your startup folder and remove them.

For harder items or if you are not really comfortable making changes on your computer you can use a software application that will help you do it.
