What causes the blue screen of death and how do you repair it?
In simple terms the blue screen of death (bsod) is exactly what it sounds like, to a degree. Your computer screen turns blue with error messages such as: STOP: 0×0000003F (0xA,0xB,0xC,0xD) NO_MORE_SYSTEM_PTES or STOP: 0×000000D8 (0xW,0xX,0xY,0xZ) DRIVER_USED_EXCESSIVE_PTES
Your Blue Screen of Death error may be caused by registry errors. Check for errors now - download this software and run a free scan. This only takes a few minutes to find out if your registry may need to be repaired.
What does the bluescreen of death mean? It means there is a problem such as a driver not cleaning up correctly, maybe a memory or hardware problem or other issues. For example the “NO_MORE_SYSTEM_PTES” error message is usually caused when a driver is not properly cleaning up.
When a driver is not cleaning up properly you can use the registry editor called Regedt32.exe (not recommended for average user) to view a registry key such as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management and try to modify it yourself, however that is not recommended unless you really know what you are doing. If you mess up your registry files your computer may not start and then you may need to reinstall your operating system.
The Blue Screen of Death on Windows XP appears to often be caused by a corrupt registry or a problem with the RAM.
The registry files have detailed information about how a computer is configured with respect to games, programs, drivers and what not. It also included configuration information on your sound care, the printer, and other hardware information. Over a period of time as changes are made such as installing new software or hardware and removing old software and hardware the registry will get cluttered and may contain obsolete data. The clutter and obsolete data may cause your computer to run slower.
Back to the bluescreen – here are some more error messages you may encounter and if you do you may want to run a quick registry scan to see if that could be the cause or part of the cause of your problems.
